My first year of blogging I focused on all the wrong things. Of course, I was worried about the number of people coming to my blog and trying to keep up with posting multiple times a week. It’s important to realize that being a full-time blogger is hard work! I don’t say this to discourage you, but prepare you for the journey you’re about to embark on!
Between the writing, SEO (search engine optimization which basically means being found on google), finding the perfect photo, and then talking about the post on social media. It’s a timely process, so you should be paid for all of your hard work. You will be working, but if it’s something you are passionate about, it’s SO worth it! Take yourself seriously
Quit saying “it’s just a hobby.” No one going to take you seriously if you don’t take yourself seriously. I think when we are all starting out we think to ourselves “What if this doesn’t work” “What if I fail” “Is this actually going to work”. The thing is there are only lessons. You will find your place and it takes you putting your WHOLE self into what you do and not having one foot out of the door!
Invest in yourself
If you want to get somewhere, learn from those who are doing what you want to do. Yes, you can spend hours on youtube, binging content, and googling for days. Once you’ve done that, then it’s time for you to find a course, program, 1:1 coaching that aligns with your goals. If you want to get somewhere quicker, you definitely want to invest in yourself. Create an email list
The number one thing that transformed my business from “I have a blog” to I run a business is my email list. My email list allowed me to sell out my services for 2 years without ever posting my offers on my Instagram feed! You can head to @attaliahstrubel and scroll back to see. Nonetheless, I went from making $0 online to making $3,000/month in 9 months and one thing that brought in clients consistently was my beloved email list. Save your money
Generally, you want to have good money habits if you plan on working from anywhere. Save up to 6 months of expenses. Let’s be honest, entrepreneurship has highs and lows. If you are looking for a position where you are guaranteed a paycheck, you will want to think hard about if it’s something you want to pursue. Having a savings account gives you flexibility and the ability to sell from a different perspective.
Become a sponge
Soak up any and every skill you can learn. These skills can be turned into job opportunities. Learning things such as creating templates on Canva can turn into a business. It’s worth you spending time to try and figure out what works for you. Practice is so important in the creation and business space. Your first video may suck but your 1,000th will be a masterpiece. Create multiple streams of income
The way to make a consistent income is by having multiple ways. In my first 8 months, I wasn’t making much money. I pushed through and found the type of income streams that would give me stability. Payment plans and having clients on retainer that way I know I will be making at least $3K a month. I talk about different streams of income in Monetization Conversations.
