Email List: Time to Get Yours Started NOW

When I started my blog in 2020, I would always tell people to “subscribe” to my blog, but never knew the meaning of what subscribe to my blog meant. I know a bit crazy! So, if you have no idea what your email list is for or how to optimize it, this blog post is for you! Email lists do not have to be confusing, so let’s go ahead and get started.

Why have an email list?

An email list allows you to have direct access to your community. Subscribers are those who are wanting to get the inside scoop of your product, advice, deals, and latest news. I know not that many people read emails anymore right? Raise your hand if you’ve ever gone shopping at a store because of an email that you have received? Some people will subscribe and never open a single email that is true. There are others who will loyally open every email. Honestly, it depends what it is you are offering in your email.

How do I start an email list?

Find a provider. There are multiple out there, but I use Flodesk. I chose Flodesk because:

  1. Aesthetic. Beautifully designed templates with great wording for every type of email you’d like to send.
  2. Cost. Flodesk is $19/month (with this link) and you can send unlimited emails and have as many subscribers as you want.
  3. Customization. On Flodesk the emails are very customizable. Allowing you to have your own unique look.

Creating an Email Offer

Now this is where I was getting confused when I started out. What does it mean to have an offer and what does that look like. In the social media realm, everyone want to know what it is you can do for them. Your offer also known as a freebie will let people know why they should sign up and what they will get. Remember, it doesn’t have to be complicated. I offer multiple freebies which include 20 Reel tips, 10 tips to Grow on Instagram, Travel App Guide, & a Carry-on packing list. Start off with one offer. Think of a gap you can fill or something people are always coming to you for advice on. Announce the freebie then start working on it!

Create a way for people to sign up

You want it to be very easy for people to sign up for your email list. Do not create unnecessary hoops. Here are a couple of ways you can place your freebie link:

Instagram: Add it to your link in bio Pinterest: Create pins with your offer Facebook: Create a post Blog: Add a pop up or a banner Twitter: Tweet you offer

What to Send to Your Subscribers

Do not ghost your subscribers. Not sure if this is even a thing, but make sure to not only show up to your email list when you want something. You want to provide your subscribers with something to look forward to. Whether that tips, a weekly chat or a recap. Provide value and engage with your subscribers.
