Social media: Are you posting to the wrong platform?

Social media: Are you posting to the wrong platform?

In January 2020, I started my blog and because it was already there I went head first into Instagram. Being on the right social media is important when building your brand. Looking back on the whole process, Pinterest would have been amazing for what I was wanting to do with my small business (at the time). Well luckily, everything finds it’s place and I fell head over heels for Instagram.

HAHA. Totally kidding. I enjoy Instagram and my community, but sometimes the algorithm can be complicated. One thing I want you to remember, you don’t own Instagram, so make sure to invest in your own thing. Whether that be a blog or an email list! That’s a topic for another day. Anywho…. In this article, I am talking about what to think about when choosing a social media platform.

Who is your ideal client?

Where is your ideal client hanging out? What does your ideal client want to spend their time doing? Every platform has it’s pro and cons, but making sure your know who your ideal client is essential. The platform you should be focused on depends on a multitude of things. Taking into account who is on a platform is one factor.

According to Statista, Facebook is the social media platform with the most active users (2.74 billion). The largest demographic for Facebook is 25-34 years of age (26.3%) with 18.8% male users and 12.8% female user. Youtube comes in second with 2.29 billion users with 81% of the users between 15 and 25 years of age. Instagram has 1.2 billion users with 33% of the users between 25-34 years of age. Pinterest has 450 million users with 35% of the users between 30-49 years of age.

What are your strengths?

Are you great at creating videos? Maybe you love networking and chatting in Facebook groups. I personally find joy in writing, but had to work on the visual aspect when I started my page in 2020. Each social media platform has its own personality.

Pinterest requires consistency in posting, creating graphics with Canva, & using other platforms such as tailwind. Keep in mind that Pinterest is a search engine and it can be used to repurpose your content.

Facebook is where your loyal friends and family are. You can also easily connect within Facebook groups. When I launched my blog in February, I announced it in Facebook and had over 1000 visitors my first month! So don’t underestimate the power of those who have watched you grow on the platform.

How much Social Media time?

Ask yourself if are working part-time, full-time, or sometimes ahahah. Honestly, all social media takes time, consistency, & patience. So if you decide to choose a social media platform, make sure you know how much time you will spend on that platform to get to where you want to be. There are multiple scheduling techniques & there are ways that you can increase your productivity. There is a lot of behind the scene work if you want to make money with social media. Keep this in mind especially.

I hope this helps you decide which social media platform to invest your time and energy in. Remember to allow yourself to be a beginner friend!
