Ready to brunch in Heidelberg?! We all love a good brunch and I am not talking about a European brunch where you grab a croissant, cheese, and salami. If you know, you know! If you don’t, in Germany and the majority of Europe bread, an assortment of meats and cheese is considered breakfast.

Yes, no eggs included. A traditional brunch in America usually includes avocado toast, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and so many different omelets.
My favorite part of brunching in Heidelberg is there is outdoor sitting for you to enjoy brunch while people watch and see the beauty of the city!
Although I have yet to find chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy, I have found AMAZING brunch spots in Heidelberg.
Things to do in Heidelberg
Table of contents
1. Cafe Bar Deer
People watching and brunch meet at Cafe Bar Deer. The restaurant is located on a busy corner street of Friedrich-Ebert in Heidelberg, so it’s a prime people watching location. If you want to grab a seat outside, make sure to make a reservation.
The English wrap, fresh fruit french toast, and green tea did not disappoint. Mimosa lovers… There are multiple sparkling wine options & freshly squeezed orange juice.
2. Nomad
If you’re looking to start the day fresh in Heidelberg, Nomad has you covered with fresh juices. This restaurant is also Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options for those who have food restrictions.
I always think of Nomad as the type of place you grab a midday coffee and get an hour or work done because the ambiance is just supreme.
3. Nokta
Nokta is located right in the center of Heidelberger Marktplatz and is also an amazing spot to sit and soak in the sun. The location and the food make it a prime brunch location.
I had no idea what Sucuk until I tried the Sucuk grilled cheese. I love a fancy grilled cheese and this is one of the BEST ones I’ve had. It was full of flavor and oh-so cheesy. Drooling just thinking about it. If you’re a fellow expat missing fresh bagels, Nokta’s got your back!
4. Meiks Brunch and Bar
Meiks Brunch and Bar is a hidden gem in Bergheim and the food will not disappoint. I am a chai drinker, but my husband loves their coffee options. The restaurants motto is “brunch, the most important meal of the day.” I mean isn’t it though.
The food is fresh with multiple creative meals derived from Porugal and Bali. Everything is so fresh, but the Artemisia is a must for the bread lovers out there. If you’re brunching after a night out, I highly recommend the Heart Attack.
5. River Café
Cross the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke bridge and head over to Neunheim and escape to a little quaint Italian corner in Heidelberg. River Café is the perfect brunch spot to eat while enjoying the sun. There’s plenty of seating facing the street.
Of course, we don’t go brunching for aesthetic or do we? River Café has multiple different types of delicious breakfast options from Italian, French, English, vegetarian & classic German breakfast. If you’re feeling lunch, I would highly recommend the ravoli and the aioli with bread!
6. Cafe Rossi
Located on the edge of Altstadt in the center of it all, Cafe Rossi is the perfect brunch spot to catch up with friends before you hit the city. You can grab a typical American breakfast here, but it’s far from boring.
The pancakes are fluffy, the eggs are fresh and the bacon is crispy. I am a huge fan of crispy bacon! You can pair your breakfast with their fresh juices, a mimosa of course, or an espresso.
7. Cafe Amor
Cafe Amor is likely the NEW go-to spot in Heidelberg. It’s right outside of the hustle and bustle of Altstadt with a bohemian vibe.
My husband and I decided to give it a try and this place DID NOT disappoint. The staff were really friendly, spoke English and German, and the service was overall amazing. If you’re looking for eggs benedict you’ve found your match, there are multiple options for different kinds. I think this is the first place in Heidelberg that I’ve gone to that has the word “mimosa” written on the menu. If you’re not trying to booze it up the pink grapefruit lemonade was refreshing, but not too sweet.
Happy Brunching! If you’re looking for cafes in the area you can find them here.
